Who we are
EM Evidence Sim is part of EM Evidence (emevidence.org). The data controller is West Midlands Evidence Based Emergency Medicine Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16644703; registered office 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX), registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration number ZC277974. For any privacy question or request, email hello@emevidence.org.
Using the simulator without an account
You don't need an account to run scenarios. Without one, we collect nothing that identifies you.
- When you link screens (controller, monitor, defibrillator, ventilator), the scenario's live state is kept in Google's Firebase Realtime Database under the session code, so the screens stay in step. It holds the simulated patient and each screen's role, with a random screen identifier. It holds nothing about you. Sessions nobody has used for a day are deleted automatically.
- Your device keeps some settings and the current scenario in its own browser storage, so the simulator can resume after a reload. This never leaves your device.
- The site is hosted by Netlify, which processes standard web server data (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver the pages.
Please don't enter real patient information into the simulator. Scenarios are for teaching only.
If you create an account
An account lets you save your own scenarios and request access to course scenarios. Accounts use Firebase Authentication from Google. You can sign in with an email address and password, or with Google.
We keep:
- your email address, and your display name if you give one or sign in with Google;
- when the account was created and when you last used it;
- any course access you request, and whether it was approved;
- the scenarios you save in My scenarios.
We use these only to run your account, to decide course access requests and to show you your saved scenarios. We don't use them for advertising and we don't sell or share them with anyone else. Your password is handled by Firebase Authentication and we never see it.
We keep your account until you ask us to delete it.
Deleting your account
You can ask us to delete your account and everything linked to it at any time. See Delete your EM Sim account.
Where your information is held
Google (Firebase) and Netlify are based in the United States, and the simulator's database is held in the United States. Each provides safeguards for international transfers under UK data protection law. All data is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing us. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
